A Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement Initiative
February is Choose Love Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Awareness Month. This Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement initiative celebrates and promotes all the benefits of SEL with a call to action for educators, students, families and communities across the country.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a proactive and preventative mental health initiative that has been proven to reduce anxiety, addiction and behavioral issues while increasing student performance as well as physical and emotional well being.
The Choose Love Enrichment Program is a Social and Emotional Learning Program that infuses SEL with Character Education, Emotional Intelligence, Positive Psychology, Neuroscience and Mindfulness. This program covers all age levels, from Infant/Toddler through High School, as well as teaching adults through the Choose Love At Home and Community Programs. Our programs are now being taught in all 50 states and have been downloaded multiple times in over 65 countries. This movement to choose love has spread by word of mouth and is indicative of the need for this type of learning and our ‘Choose Love’ message.
The SEL Awareness Month brings attention to the importance of teaching children core competencies and skills, beyond academics, that can help them thrive physically, mentally and emotionally. When students have SEL as part of their instruction, you can expect them to have:
- Academic Success
- Positive Social Behavior
- Fewer Conduct Problems
- Less Emotional Distress
How Do You Choose Love?
Choosing Love means having the courage to be grateful when life is not easy, to forgive, even when the person who hurt you is not sorry, and to step outside your own world to help someone else. That is how to Choose Love, and the empowering lesson is that it is a choice! When we choose love in our thoughtful responses we take our personal power back and make the world a better place.
- How to be empowered to have the courage to do the right thing… even if it’s hard;
- How to have an attitude of gratitude no matter the circumstance;
- How to handle challenging emotions and forgive yourself and others;
- How to choose to act with love and compassion;
- Ideas for incorporating the Choose Love Formula into everyday life through discussion topics, action calendars and other resources for groups or families to further explore the lessons.
You can sign up for SEL Awareness Month and receive a toolkit filled with easy ways to incorporate Choose Love into your family’s daily life. You can help create a safer and more connected world and be part of the solution by creating a more loving and compassionate home.

Simple things can make a strong impact. Your participation in SEL Awareness Month can be as simple as displaying our Choose Love Formula poster in your window display, billboard, or breakroom.

Each year we take time to put a spotlight on the importance of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). We are thrilled to include our new programs, Choose Love At Home and Choose Love Communities, to our month-long celebration.
We can all be a part of the solution to the issues we are facing in our schools and society by choosing love and making sure our schools have Social and Emotional Learning as well as incorporating Choose Love into our homes and community.
Choose Love Poetry Contest
The Choose Love Movement is seeking poetry expressing what “Choosing Love” means. Using poetry as a creative expression, students will illustrate Choosing Love and how that thoughtful choice shapes and impacts their life and/or how it affects the lives of people around them.
