Week Three of ’30 Days of Gratitude’
Day 22 –Choose Love
Now is the time to be creative. Think about what gratitude means to you and write your own poem about it. Let your feelings flow. There’s no right or wrong way. It can be short, long, a haiku, a sonnet, or free form. Reflect on your feelings and see what it reveals about you.
Day 23 – Things I am Grateful For
Everyone has a special item they treasure — not just an everyday material item, but a cherished keepsake. Maybe it’s a family photo of someone no longer with us, a treasured heirloom from a relative, a toy or stuffed animal you had as a child, or your wedding ring. What are 3 things that you hold close to your heart and why are you grateful for them?
Think of all the good feelings it brings forth when you see it. Jesse loved yellow ducks. They’ve become a special symbol of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement. Seeing them, they bring forth a smile and happiness.
Day 24 – What place can you be thankful for today.
Think of the different places that make you feel good when you spend time there. Scarlett’s #1 place is anywhere her son JT is. She also loves being on her farm with her animals and on the water where it’s so peaceful. Pick a place that is special to you. Is it a park or a beach? Your comfy bed? Your summer vacation spot? Visit it today if you can. If not find a picture and post it.
Day 25 – People inspire gratitude
“Each person must live their life as a role model for others.” – Rosa Parks
Who is someone that inspires you to be a better and kinder person? Think about the qualities you see in your friends, family, co-workers, employer, neighbor, and everyone else in your life.
Consider how they influence your actions and why you respect them. Take a moment to reach out and send them a text, give them an online shout-out, or write a note and tell them why they are important in your life. It will make their day knowing they’re appreciated.
Day 26 – What activities inspire gratitude?
Think about the activities you are part of. Do you exercise at a fitness center? Spend time at a library? Do you play on a sports team or attend dance classes? Does your child play on a team? Consider the people who make these activities possible, who strive to provide a nice atmosphere so you have a good experience. Do you ever stop and think about them?
Find someone who you’d like to thank or say something to, and write them a note, send them a text, or the next time you go to the location, let them know how grateful you are for their services.
Day 27 Family Foodies
Family dishes passed down from generation to generation and spending time with family that involves food brings forth feelings of comfort and love. Do you have a favorite recipe from your grandparents? Do you recall a time you shared a favorite food with someone special? Scarlett’s favorite food is chocolate-covered caramels and ice cream. She recalls the special times when her mom used to take her to Baskin Robbins to get one scoop of chocolate chip and chocolate mint chip in a sugar cone.
Make a special treat that you loved as a child or re-create your grandmother’s secret recipe. Share a memory with your children about that dish and why it’s so special to you. Or tell your children about those special moments with family that involve food.
Day 28 Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving. Today is a heartwarming to celebrate with family and friends.
Remember to read from your gratitude jar!
Day 29 Black Friday. Do something nice today
Today the entire world seems to be focused on shopping for the holidays. There will be news stories about people spending all night in line just waiting to get into the stores.
Spread a little gratitude around. Start the day by writing a list of 5 things you are grateful for that do not cost a single dime.
As a bonus, if you are out and about today, make an extra effort to say thank you. Smile. Perhaps open a door for someone in a rush or carrying bags. Be mindful of others and it will bring you joy.
Day 30 Let the Gratitude Continue
“The future depends on what you do today.” – Mahatma Gandhi
This may be the Last day of 30 Days of Gratitude with Choose Love but don’t stop here. Keep it going by continuing to take a moment every day to think about what you are grateful for, focus on positive thoughts, spend time in nature, and write in your gratitude journal. . . . Be Grateful — Choose Love!
Week Three of ’30 Days of Gratitude’
Day 15 – Grateful for Children in my Life
The relationship between parent and child is so important. Children are the blessings in our lives. Jesse and JT have a special place in Scarlett’s heart.
Think about the relationship between you and your child(ren), or the special children in your life. Do they know how you feel about them? Do you tell them often? Give your child(ren) a big hug today. Put a loving note in their lunch bag. Make their favorite meal. Read a book together. Find fun and positive ways to bond and always make time to appreciate the kids in your life.
We are grateful Choose Love is reaching over 1.5 children in all 50 states and 90 countries who are learning how to Choose Love!
Day 16 Grateful for Pregnant Moms-to-be
Stay calm and blissful while you’re pregnant so you don’t transfer any stress to your baby. Bask in the glory of the little one you will be meeting soon.
Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, PhD., world famous cell biologist and author, produced irrefutable proof that pregnant women send signals to their developing babies about the environment they will be born into. A calm, happy, relaxed mother will produce a baby with a more developed frontal lobe, who will be calmer and smarter. In contrast, if the mother is stressed out, worried and/or anxious, the baby’s hind brain will be more developed as well as its high twitch muscles, making it a natural born fighter.
One of our extension programs, All Calm Down, is designed specifically for pregnant women. Share this video and program with a pregnant friend or relative.
Day 17 – Grateful for Community
Every city and town is different. What is special about where you live? Be grateful for your neighborhood and everything it has to offer. Visit your local coffee shop, the library, an art gallery, the park, or other places nearby. What do you appreciate about them?
In New Hampshire, the Hanover Police Department, the entire state-wide school district, and a pediatrician office are Choosing Love. Bentonville, Arkansas is Choosing Love town-wide along with their school district.
Our Choose Love for Communities program enables communities and businesses to be part of the solution. Using the Choose Love principles, business owners, law enforcement agencies, politicians, and community leaders can help promote a more loving and peaceful community. The program offers team exercises, implementation ideas, and consistent messaging.
Day 18 – Our Animal Friends
Mammals….Fish… Birds…. Reptiles… There’s a wide variety of animals, or, as Jesse called them, animals, that make up our gigantic animal kingdom. What animals are you grateful for? Do you have a pet? Do you like farm animals? How about wild animals or ones that are now extinct?
Post a picture of what animal you are grateful for right now. #Grateful #ChooseLove #30DaysofGratitude
Day 19 – What are two words that define what you are grateful for.
Think for a moment. What are two words that define what you are grateful for? Really give it some thought.
It’s not easy to select just two, but here are some for inspiration: Family . . . Peace . . . Love . . .Trust . . Nature . . .Work . . .Pets . . . Volunteering . . .Friends . . . Sports. . . Holidays . . .
We have many blessings and need to continually practice mindful thankfulness to appreciate all the goodness we have in our lives.
Day 20 Gratitude Jar
Thanksgiving is a week away and it’s the perfect time to create a family Gratitude Jar. Decorate a special container, make small strips of paper, and ask everyone to write down who or what they’re thankful for. At Thanksgiving dinner, bring out the jar and have everyone take turns reading aloud the daily notes. Take a moment to share heartwarming stories and reflect on the abundance of love and goodness everyone has in their lives.
You can Choose Love At Home with our program that teaches families and children how to always Choose Love and learn essential life skills. With nurturing, healing love, children become happier, more confident, and more compassionate, and it creates a safer, more connected and peaceful world.
Day 21 – Positive thoughts
Life can sometimes get us down but we have to focus on positive thinking. By Choosing LOVE you can bring more gratitude, compassion, and happiness into your life.
Scarlett always says: “Think about what you think about. Change one angry thought into a loving thought.” Be positive. Find a special word or an inspiring quote that has meaning to you and always repeat it. Use it as your mantra to become happier, more resilient, more connected, more compassionate, and more loving.
Week Two of ’30 Days of Gratitude’
Day 8 – Gratitude with purpose
Life is all about the relationships we create with others. The Choose Love Formula cultivates kindness, compassion, and connection. Love is the universal need that unites all human beings and it’s so important to have healthy relationships and deep, meaningful connections with others.
When was the last time you went out of your way to help someone or make them feel good? Put yourself aside for a moment and consider how you can help someone else today. It doesn’t take much to have a positive impact. Make a list of all the ways you can reach out, and, today, put one of them in action. Keep the list handy as a reminder to do good deeds often. Everyone will benefit from your kindness.
Day 9 Be Grateful for the Small Things
“I don’t have to take a trip around the world or be on a yacht in the Mediterranean to have happiness. I can find it in the little things, like looking out into my backyard and seeing deer in the fields.” – Queen Latifah.
Take today to remind yourself of the small, yet special moments in your life. From a baby’s smile, your morning cup of coffee, or a brilliant sunset, to hearing your favorite childhood song, seeing a beautiful flower, or drinking a refreshing glass of clean water, we need to be mindful of what we have in our lives. Even the smallest thing can leave a big impression.
It’s the month of Thanksgiving and we need to be mindful of all that we have. Press the pause button often to reflect and give thanks for your blessings. Our programs teach about the importance of being grateful for family, friends, school, and everything else. Know that you have goodness surrounding you.
Today, Scarlett will be presenting at Bentonville, Arkansas at its HUGE Choose Love Community celebration to honor Jesse. The Walmart museum, the school district, and the entire town is taking part. There will be a Fall Festival with marching bands, games, and lots of fun.
Day 10 Gratitude in the Moment
The busy-ness of our lives tends to fill our days with stress and anxiety. We can get wrapped up in other things that we rarely take a breath to slow down. Step back and ask yourself: “What am I grateful for in this very moment?” Take time to reflect for five minutes. Don’t think about anything but the here and now. Let your mind settle on what’s important to you. Sometimes we need a gentle reminder to consider the blessings we have and what we should cherish. What are you grateful for right here, right now?
By following the principles of the Choose Love formula, you will learn that gratitude is mindful thankfulness and the ability to be thankful even when things in life are challenging. By being ever-present, you’ll feel connected to those around you, you’ll be more self-aware, and you’ll find that you’ll appreciate the gifts in your life.
Day 11 Celebrate Veteran’s Day
Today is a special holiday to be grateful to the troops serving now as well as family members and friends who have served in the past. Is there a Veteran in your family? Have a conversation with the veteran and learn about their military service and what it means to them. Let them know how you respect them and honor their commitment to their country.
These veterans served with bravery and courage, uniting with their fellow man, and showing dedication to a cause. We can learn from them how to be strong, resilient, and mighty. These men and women reflect the first character value in our Choose Love formula: Courage to overcome obstacles and stand tall in any circumstance.
Day 12 Taking time to Relax
The mind-body connection is the key to overall good health. What do you like to do to unwind and find balance? Be more self-aware and recognize that you need to nurture your own self. Love yourself every day by taking time for self-care – the best kind of remedy to restore your energy and your overall mental and physical health.
Our partner, @ZensationalKids, combines the tools of yoga and mindfulness into our Choose Love curriculum which explores breath, movement and mindfulness. Research is demonstrating how these specific tools help the nervous system relax, organize and process information, which is not only essential for learning, but also living healthy, happy lives. Yoga and mindfulness have been found to be highly effective practices to help self-regulate, manage big emotions, focus attention, and develop resilience.
Day 13 Passage of Time
”In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln
Time passes by so quickly and we need to stop and re-evaluate how we’ve been living our lives, how we feel about ourselves, and how we’ve been treating others. Ask yourself: what is different today than a year ago that I am grateful for?
We need to be the best person we can be and live life following the Choose Love formula: Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action. The Choose Love programs teach the foundational concepts and skills of social and emotional learning (SEL), and is informed by current brain research and neuroscience. SEL provides tremendous lifelong mental, physical, and emotional benefits. It’s a powerful and proactive mental health initiative that helps us thrive and always choose love.
Day 14 Recognize a Senior Citizen
Senior citizens are a vital part of our fabric of life. They can impart wisdom and have interesting stories to tell of yesteryear. Take a moment to connect with them by calling or writing to the elders in your family, a neighbor, or someone in your community, or volunteer your time at a senior center.
Adopt the Choose Love principles to your relationship with the elderly by showing them how much you appreciate them and see them as a valuable part of your community. Let them know they belong and you love them. As Scarlett says, “In actuality, we are all exactly the same. We need love. We want to belong. We want to feel good. We want to feel happy.” Always Choose love and love one another.
Week One of ’30 Days of Gratitude’
Day 1 – What Does Gratitude Mean?
Gratitude is mindful thankfulness and the ability to be thankful even when things in life are challenging. Practicing Gratitude has many health benefits including better sleep, increases self-esteem and can even expand our life-span. All of this leads to greater happiness.
Learn more about learn the skills tools and attitude to choose love in every situation. Choose Love At Home looks deeper into the benefits of gratitude, how to live a life with gratitude. You will also learn about our other pillars of the Choose Love Formula, Courage, Forgiveness and Compassion-in-Action, so you and your family can learn how to Choose Love every day!
November 2: Grateful for our Community Members who Support Us
Scarlett Lewis and everyone at Choose Love are grateful for the support of our community members who help raise awareness and host fundraisers which help use serve their communities and others. Thanks to @DarienDepot and the Cast of Beatlemania fundraiser playing New Milford, CT tonight.
We’re happy to be reaching over 1.5 million children in 90 countries and making the world a safer, more peaceful place.
Community and business leaders can join our Gratitude campaign, visit ’30 Days of Gratitude’ on our website for more information.
Day 3: Be Grateful for the Universe
The Universe is filled with the beauty of twinkling stars, billowing clouds, and the vastness of the sky. Put down your technology, take a deep breath, and gaze up at the world before you. Lose yourself in its peacefulness as you experience this precious moment in time.
Be inspired by David Romanelli who encourages you to “trust the Universe” as you listen to his podcast, “Ancient Secret to Healing Anxiety.”
Day 4: Be Grateful for Being You
Today, celebrate and love the person you are.
In her song, “Born This Way,” @LadyGaga celebrates everyone’s unique self. Have the courage to stand tall, be brave, and honor who and what you are. We partnered with Lady Gaga’s @BornThisWayFoundation to share the message of creating a better world and finding your strength by being YOU. Follow the Choose Love formula and be empowered by your resilience, your positive attitude, and your self-awareness. We are ALL special and we all have the power to Choose Love.
Day 5: Find your Motivation
“Gratitude is the great mind shifter. You can’t have two thoughts at once so you can choose a grateful thought to replace a lower energy one.” – Scarlett Lewis
Scarlett’s words are always so thought-provoking. Contemplate what she says here and find a gratitude quote that speaks to you in some way and really makes you think about how you feel and how you act toward others.
Neuroscience has shown that feeling grateful has a positive impact on our mental health and well-being. It increases our happiness, helps us to better deal with stress and anxiety, manage emotions, gives us greater self-esteem, strengthens our social and emotional learning, and so much more.
What is your motivation? Post it at #Gratitude #ChooseLove so you can inspire others by your words.
Day 6 – Healthy Body
Thank your body. Even when something is wrong, there’s plenty that is still right. Being thankful for being alive is the single most important way to find gratitude during the hardest day. What is working well on your body today?
If you have pain and stress in your body, try tapping as a way to destress. Tapping is a self-regulating tool to develop an understanding of your emotions and resiliency. Watch the video from our partner, the @TappingSolution with Nick Ortner.
“Even though I have pain and stress in my body, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
Day 7 – Healthy Grieving for a Lost Loved One
Holidays can be hard for those who have lost loved ones. There is nothing in life that can really prepare us for the death of a loved one. Whether the death is sudden or as a result of a long term illness, it always catches us off-guard. We believe that we can help to change the experience of grief and loss, into a journey of hope and transformation because as Dianne says, “Grieving well is by choice. Choice is the most powerful tool we have.”
Choose Love and Healthy Grieving offers separate guides for children, teens, and adults to follow, where you can learn about the grieving process for each age group respectively. We have included tips and tricks you can use to approach and assist someone who is grieving, or for you to use to help in your own grieving journey. It will take time, but you CAN heal – let us help.
Visit our Extension Programs to find Healthy Grieving and download the guide that best suits your needs now and start healing.
